We cannot change History, but we CAN write “HER story.”

In 2026, Julie Walters, First Vice President of GFWC Georgia, recognized the importance of preserving the voices and experiences of the women who make GFWC so extraordinary. With that vision, she created a podcast where members of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs could share their personal stories, volunteer journeys, meaningful projects, and the moments that inspired them to serve.

For generations, women have worked quietly and faithfully to strengthen their communities. They have established libraries, supported schools, advocated for important causes, cared for families in need, preserved local history, and created lasting change—often without seeking recognition. Their accomplishments can be found throughout our communities, yet their personal stories are not always recorded.

Documenting these “her stories” ensures that their courage, compassion, leadership, and service are not forgotten. Each woman’s journey adds another chapter to the larger story of GFWC and the women’s club movement. These stories help us understand not only what was accomplished, but also why these women chose to serve, the challenges they overcame, the friendships they formed, and the lives they touched along the way.

By preserving their voices, Julie created more than a podcast—she created a living history of GFWC. These conversations honor the women who came before us, celebrate those who are serving today, and inspire future generations to continue the legacy.

Every woman has a story. Every volunteer journey matters. When we take the time to document “her story,” we ensure that her service, her impact, and her voice become part of our shared history.

GFWC’s Women’s History & Resource Center

Founded in 1984, The GFWC Women’s History and Resource Center in Washington, D.C., serves as the official archive of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, preserving photographs, documents, publications, artifacts, and records that tell the story of women’s volunteer service and leadership. By safeguarding these materials, the Center ensures that the contributions of clubwomen are recognized as an important part of American history. Julie’s podcast adds a personal dimension to this mission by preserving not only what women accomplished, but also their voices, memories, motivations, and the stories behind their service.

The WHRC collections encompass GFWC’s institutional archives, including convention records, files related to our programs and leadership, and “Clubwoman” magazine (and its predecessors). We hold a robust photograph and audio-visual collection, as well as GFWC ephemera, memorabilia, and the art and artifacts that furnish our historic Headquarters building. We also maintain a reference library collection focused on women’s history, the woman’s club movement, and the history of volunteerism.
